Design with CNC

‘ Digitally designed- digitally produced. In the design of BanQ, a South Boston restaurant, Office da has incorporated a system of digital fabrication (CNC) into the design process. The CNC fabrication process adapts to a certain body of materials, encourages ways of interpreting a design and allows for certain possibilities in a design. The restaurant design leverages the capabilities of the CNC technology to develop a carved out interior space within the plywood ribs. ‘ (via 2modern.com)

” .. amazing villa in the woods of Soest in the Netherlands. Designed by the creative minds from Zecc Architects, the house meets the ground and embraces the space with a lot of stacked stone that gets the eye. With an interior that promotes open spaces and large windows that welcome light, there’s a sculptural link between the three floors of the house and the functional spaces of it. ” Link here.

” Potatoes are good for building free standing structures as the starchy moisture acts as a type of glue helping to stick the units together. As the potato begins to dry the units bond together (this fits with the rules that I apply to the other structural 3d work I make: structures have to be pure - without glues, tape or other forms of artificial connection). As the potatoes dry, harden and sometimes go mouldy this also adds an element of life to the work, meaning that the structures evolve, change shape and colour. ” - Peter Root (previously-blogged)

House in the Netherlands by Rocha Tombal Architecten

p

p

A project by Rocha Tombal Architecten , this house seems to be the product of “sculpting” aside from being of an architectural value. The exterior design looks almost surreal with its windows “coming out” of the actual building. The unexpected architecture is also reflected in the original interior design. Rooms are given an unusual touch, walls don’t end where you would expect them to, which is why furniture had to be “adapted”. Due to the fact that the house is surrounded by a vast green space, almost every room has a beautiful view of the so called “garden”. Link here.

Cercle et suite d’éclats

‘ The buildings in the town of Vercorin in the Swiss Alps contribute to an impressive piece by Felice Varini, called Cercle et suite d’éclats. The pattern was projected on the town from the vantage point, then traced and painted. Photographs from the same spot in daylight make the town look flat, almost like a postcard. What I’d like to know is how he got the town to go along with it; I could see an easily-repainted suburb in the States being convinced, but this quaint (and much older) town in Switzerland seems like a much bigger challenge.’ (via Make:)
